Default Weld a faceplate crack?

Just out of curiosity, am I asking for trouble welding a crack in the faceplate when I do my rebuild? A new one alone is $300 on top of all the other rebuild parts, so I was just wondering if a weld would work since I know people do it with bellhousings and such.

Are you refering to teh "midplate"? yes, you can weld it up, but more importantly...where is the crack though??

I'll have to look when we pull the trans out, but if I remember correctly, it is cracked on the slave cylinder side in the webbing.
