Shifter area, fluid filled?

Shifter area, fluid filled?
I haven't had a chance to tear into the transmission yet but I would like to know if the area where the shifter sits is supposed to be fluid filled or not. I came across a picture from a short throw shifter installation but can't tell if it was cleaned up or not.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but fluid does flow through that area - when the car isn't running, it is normal to see that amount of residual fluid in that area. If you fill the transmission by dumping it in that box, you'll find out just how fast (or slow) the fluid drains from there back into the transmission.
There is definitely enough fluid flowing through there during normal operation that if you don't have the shifter sealed well enough with RTV (or a gasket like I used to use), you'll end up with a pretty decent mess under your car. Ask me how I know.
