Default Help! T56 rebuild

I pulled the trans from my 2003 Z06 because it was making noise in all foward gears except 4th. The best way to describe the noise would be to say it makes a reverse gear whine but not as loud. I expected to find a problem with the countershaft or bearings but everything looks good (except for the 5-6 gear I destroyed trying to get it off) The bearings and races look fine and the wear pattern on all the gears looks fine. It can't be the diff because the noise goes away when I shift into 4th. What could I be missing

There is really nothin else to those tranny's. I rebuild mine with a tick performance stage two package and all new bearings and everything went pretty smooth. Could it be the diff at a certain rpm or somethin that is causing a whine? And when you shift into 4th it goes away?

How about the small bearing on the end of the mainshaft, that rides inside the input shaft ? It will burn easily on very low-fluid or hard-launches on mildly-low fluid. Bearings don't always "show" their wear sometimes..

Agreed. I would carefully inspect the gear teeth where they mesh up and look for undercutting. There will be a line etched into each tooth all the way across. Usually happens when the trans is ran low on fluid.
