Well I guess I'll start with my current situation.

04 GTO M12 T56
440rwhp (heads,cam,etc)
117k miles
ACT clutch with Tilton master cylinder
Starting to grind on the 3-4 shift if shifting quickly (syncro appears to be giving up)
All other gear changes are good but slightly notchy.

Looking to keep the GTO but saving for a C5 Z06 and will likely procharge it then build that trans more. I dont want to spend too much money on this trans rebuild and was thinking about more of a refresh with new syncros and maybe a few other goodies.

What do you all recommend?

Also as another option I do have a local trans guy with experience with T56's so I likely can just get parts and work with him for labor and not have to ship the trans from Ohio.

Trying to weigh my options.

Thanks in advance!

Default Update

Update, due to parts availability issues, we rarely have any more T56 trannys for sale. I may have one for sale every once in awhile, so always check with us. Your best bet is to purchase a core, send it in and we can do our upgraded build. An LS1 core is the best, but we can work with just about any T56 core; Corvette, 03/04 Cobra, LT1, Viper, etc. We can also do hybrid builds. For example, the trans will mate up the an LS1, but we can do other tailshaft housings/mainshafts, as this will allow for other shifter locations. The Viper tailhousing will move the shifter forward 4 inches, and the Cobra tailhousing will move it 3 inches. These setups are perfect for LSx conversions. But for now, we have nothing available. This changes weekly, as we buy all the cores we can find.
Oh, and if we do sell a T56, the price is no longer $1900. For a built/upgraded LS1 style T56, the price is now $2350, due to the parts prices going up more and more. We even have to order parts from GM at times, and pay out the *** for the parts.
If you want a custom build or Stg3 build, it can go up from there as well. Like mentioned before, you can buy a core and send it in. Its a gamble, but as long as you get a good price on the core, then it will usually come out cheaper than our sales prices. Hope this clears everything up! Thanks and feel free to shoot an email for the quickest response txdrivetrain@hotmail.com

Angry

i was wondering if you guys take in t5's. I have a t5 from an 86 firebird v8 in excelent condition. It is running in my car now with a 307 but i am wanting a t56 because i want to do an Ls swap. I paid almost $600 for the trans a few months ago i think i may have got jipped

so i see you sell the reman units for $1900 if you take in t5's what would i be looking at for a price?

i didn't mean to put a mad face for the title pissed about my mistake paying $600 for the t5. dont know how to get rid of it

Price for an LS1 built T56 outright is $1900. Completely rebuilt with these upgrades: billet keys, steel 3-4 fork, and re-machined mainshaft. LT1 and Ford T56's are $1800.
T56 conversion kits are available on a very limited basis. Bellhousings for the LS1 are $225, and $100 for the LT1 (limited time only - LT1).
Upgrade to the 31 or 32 spline mainshaft = $700 extra, so $2500 total.
These prices include the transmission with both sensors (rev lights, speed sensor) and both solenoids (rev lockout, and skip shift).
Every T56 is warrantied for one year, and unlimited mileage.

You did notice that the thread you posted in is almost 2yrs old, right?

You would be better off to contact Jason at TDP directly with that question.
He is a very busy guy so don't expect an immediate reply.
He was very helpful to me though.

Good luck

i really doubt it.... a th400 isnt close to what a built t56 costs with no core. a stock t56 is worth 15-1700 and a built one can easily be 3k

This thread is over four years old and he is no longer a vendor.

$2500 for a T56 rebuilt is silly when you can buy a brand new magnum for $2800

Summit, jegs, anywhere that sells them. Looks like there was a price increase for FY16 and they're 2995 now. Still a great deal since they come with a good shifter, and new slave cyl.

The main problem with the Magnums that you can buy for $3K is that they're not a direct bolt-in to an LS1 Camaro/Trans Am or 04-06 GTO. Those looking for a transmission outright with no core should check out our Level 4 or 5 Magnum Conversions:

Level 4 for LS1 F-Body: http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...camaro-firebird/
Level 5 for LS1 F-Body: http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...camaro-firebird/

Level 4 for GTO: http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...6-pontiac-gto/
Level 5 for GTO: http://www.tickperformance.com/tick-...6-pontiac-gto/

During the conversion, we also upgrade the 1-4 Blockers to carbon and upgrade all the fork pads to bronze instead of the plastic that they come with. On the Level 5s, we do Cryogenic Treatment and REM Polishing. We also warranty them for one year (unlimited mileage.)
