Default Clutch gets soft/soggy

99 z28. Stock clutch and master cylinder.

After I rag the car threw 1st and 2nd the clutch gets soggy/soft.

I heard that this is because of the master cylinder not returning fluid back fast enough.

Has anyone experienced this that can tell me for sure what needs to be done?

Check your fluid in the clutch master reservoir. If it's dark then replace the fluid and bleed the clutch hydraulics. This should help.

Ok, I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks, I'll let you know if it helps or not.

X2 this is a common problem, I replaced my clutch and slave about a year ago when I was having the same problem (clutch was toast anyway) and the problem went away and has now returned. Ive heard things like the rubber in the hose breaks down slowly and makes the fluid dirty to heatsoak breaks down the fluid.

Anyway a permanant fix comes in a pricey little clutch master cyl but is a much better then facory one from Tick Performance.

But before you jump the gun start with the fluid in the clutch master, is it dirty or clear.

For a good read on this issue, check out our FAQ, here: http://www.tick-performance.com/tick...aulics/#master

The clutch fluid was black as can be and somewhat thick. I sucked all the old fluid out and refilled the resovoir with new fluid, drove the car and sucked the fluid out and refilled it again. Although it helped for a minute it didn't completely take care of the issue. I was told by a local shop that doing this a few times (maybe 3 times a week this week and next) could possibly solve my problem. If that doesn't work then i'll go ahead and buy an master cylinder as that seems to be the main problem here.

The correct way would be to bleed the slave and get all the old fluid out of there... Altho when you purchase a new clutch cyl get the speed bleeder from Tick Performance. Makes bleeding it much easier the next time.

Also, make sure you do the 'drill mod' if you do get a new clutch master cylinder.

Our kit comes with a heat wrapped, unrestricted braided stainless line, thus eliminating the need for the drill mod.
