Default odd noise

Hey guys I finally started working on the Trans Am. I bought the car and was told the trans was bad (stuck in 4th gear). While I was getting it ready to pull I noticed that the shifter base was loose. Tightened it up and it would go through all the gears but the car wouldn't start. Got it started today and while it was up in the air I went through all gears and it seemed fine but made this god awful noise consistently when the clutch was let out. As long as the clutch was in it's quiet. Does it sound like it could be the TO bearing? Also if the trans shifted fine while the car was in the air do you think it would be fine on the ground with a load? This is the first car I've ever had with a hydraulic clutch so I'm not very familiar with them. Thanks!
