Default Transmission wont go back on! Help

First off its a m6 ls1. When I went to put the transmission back in the input shaft only makes in inside the pressure plate teeth if I turn and get it in a angle but thats it after it makes it in the teeth it dosnt get close to getting into the clutch disk. If I try to go straight on the bell housing is held up by the under carriage and wont let the bell housing go up enough to get the input shaft into the right position. Im going to just bolt up the bell housing in the morning and try to install it seperate, even though ive never had to do it before. The problem is the motor isnt angled down enough to install the transmission, when I took it out the weight of the tranny hung down enough to slide it out...

sounds like your on the right track. install bellhousing first and double check your clutch
disc alignment, plus it's easier to get to the bellhousing bolts this way.
