Default Possible to use a 153 tooth flywheel on LS?

I am doing a swap into a car with a small trans and bellhousing area. Is it possible to use the small 153 tooth flywheel? I know the old style bellhousing will bolt onto the new engine but what to use for a starter? The trans used will have the standard 'old GM' pattern.

Sure, but you provided little detail.

The only part of an old "Muncie" bell that's bigger is the starter pocket.

Post more and add detail.

Thanks for the link. I am totally new to these engines so pardon my ignorance - I am a lifelong Ford guy and just can't ignore how much better the LS engine is so I am going to swap the LS instead of the old 5.0 into my Volvo that I bought to put a 5.0 into.
I have seen pictures of both bells side by side and the 153 tooth version is much smaller in diameter. I don't have anything at this time and am basically collecting information before the swap starts. I have a PM that says the big bell (621?) does not fit in the car I am dealing with.
Using the smaller bell would save a ton of rework that I don't want to do and I don't need the giant clutch for a stock 5.3 in a light car with little tires.

If the 621 starter pocket hits floor, look at the 621 vs. a 3858403.

Is it common for Volvo V8 swaps to use or retain mechanical clutch linkage and does the drivers side fork clear?

I don't know. I have not started the swap - I know the T56 doesn't fit without butchering the car otherwise I would just use one. Like I mentioned I have a PM that says the big bell does not fit so I would like to use the small one.

Default Bump - anyone know anything about this

I have found a place to make a nice light 153 tooth LS flywheel and of course the PP and disk is not a problem. The problem is the starter. I found a place in Australia that makes a starter for 'their' conversion 153 tooth flywheel used in a Land Rover LS engine swap but they have not returned my email and I don't feel like making an expensive long distance call in the middle of the night to see if this thing will work for me. If it does I should be able to buy it from Advance Adapters here in California.

Bringing this back up from a year ago. Steve, did you ever purchase the starter? Hopefully it worked. Who did you purchase it from?
