Im sure it has been done, but are there any major differences in an older t56 vs a newer one. I bought a ctsv ls6/t56 combo and that transmission is not really compatible with anything other than a ctsv (sucks for me). I was told you can modify the ctsv t56 to make it work like that gto t56 but i decided that was too much work and wasn't exactly cost effective. So, I found a ls1/t56 combo from a 99 z28. I plan on using the ls6 and the t56 from the camaro. I believe it should be a clean swap but if anyone has any suggestions or knows of a thread that goes into depth i'd appreciate the help. the engine and trans are going into a 72 camaro. My reason for wanting to use the camaro t56 is that most parts are designed around those year t56's plus shifter location wise, it works best.
