Default What is the THICKEST, TOUGHEST oil I can put in my viper trans??

Im doing some standing mile racing (200mph speeds) and i want something that will help with overheating. I know that a fluid pump would be ideal, but thats not an option right now. Im currently running GM Synchromesh. I was thinking about adding some lucas trans stop-slip (super thick & sticky additive).

any ideas on what fluid to use? the trans has all carbon synchros btw.

Thicker does not necessarily mean better... Just run a quality synthetic like Amsoil, RP, etc. I used Pennzoil Syncromesh and have no problems over many years. Great smooth stuff, but I hear the Pennzoil = GM Syncromesh

I agree with NVR_SPDS, Royal Purple Synchromax is what I would try.

unless you are hot lapping the car at Mojave.... your trans won't have heat issues.

When you are running the mile and making the kindof horsepower he is you start to overpower the gearset. That makes a lot of excess heat. He just wants to get one more mile event out of it befor it gives up the ghost.

Well, I can tell you what they don't use, and that's a T-56 or TR-6060, so their choice of transmission oil wouldn't exactly matter in this case.

They were using an Xtrac sequential, but I'm not sure if it's still the same transmission since they are now using paddle shifters.

And while he was asking about fluid, he was asking about fluid for a specific transmission, not just a random transmission, and certainly not a sequential gearbox.

From what I've found, the Dodge recommended Viper factory fill for '03-'06 Vipers is Castrol Syntorq (75w85)...that's far thicker than the Dex III ATF GM recommended for T-56s over those same years. I would guess Pennzoil Synchromesh is somewhere in between the two.

Couldn't tell you how the Syntorq feels...'08 is when Dodge switched to the TR-6060 to handle the extra HP ('08 was the first year for the 600HP 8.4L engine), and they also went back to a thinner fluid. From what I've found, Dodge went with the Syntorq to quiet down the neutral gear rattle noise that a lot of Viper owners dislike, but I'm guessing the thicker oil and the TR-6060 don't get along very well. My transmission definitely rattles in neutral, but it's just how the transmission is.

Exactly. It is just 1 mile, not 100 miles.
