Default reverse retainer install

Is there a trick to easily install a new retainer on the reverse synchro assembly?

Both times I have installed a new one, it took a lot of beating to get it on and, once on, didnt look much better than the used one that came off. I tried a piece of abs pipe just slightly bigger than the inner part of the retainer as well as a screwdriver/hammer. Neither of those made it easy to get on.

The retainer on the hub that keeps the keys from sliding out the back of the synchro?

I have an old bearing race I use to press them on, no beating, but since all it does is keep the keys from falling out I don't know why you need to keep replacing them.

(GM finally got it right in the 2007 CTSv where they used an ABS plastic ring as a retainer. Slide fit, not a friction fit. I need to find out if they are available as a separate item. I wonder if the TR6060 uses them also since many of the last mods to,the T56 made it into the TR design.)

I flipped the synchro assembly on both t56s I've rebuilt and the manual says to use a new retainer if you remove it. Maybe it's not necessary.

Flip the slider on the hub, no need to flip the hub.

GM P/N 12523044 $6.99

RETAINER,REV GR SYN INSERT.
Required: 01
For: DN 6-SPD M/TRANS(M12) (2004-2007) (2006 - 2007).

So that tells me it's retrofit to older models also.. I'm gonna order a few to have on hand for future needs.

Thanks for the info. Can the keys and springs be replaced on the hub without removing the retainer? Maybe the keys and the spring on one side, but the other side would be tough to get out with the retainer. In any case, flipping just the slider is a good idea.

Looks like Tick (who's website is really slow now) doesn't sell a lot of tr6060 specific parts.
