Default Can't Hit Reverse or 5th Gear

Hello all. New here so bear with me! Just bought a 1994 trans am with an lt1. The guy when he sold me it said that he replaced the old transmission mount last night because it was bad (which is was). He told me after doing so that reverse and 5th would be a little difficult to get into and that I just needed to adjust the shift. Well I did what little "adjusting" I could do. He told me to adjust the two bolts on the shifter and all would be good. Well now I still have the problem. I can hit reverse but after I move back about two feet it pops loose and just grinds. I can't hit 5th at all. All it does is grind. WHAT DO I DO? I have no problems hitting 1st-4th. I haven't tried 6th yet but as far as I know it's also fine.

Thanks.
1994 Pontiac trans am
131k miles.
Not sure if stock clutch and tranny or not.

If its not the shifter it could be the 5-6-reverse shift rail not operating properly but you have to open the tranny to figure that out
