Default new t56 wrong front cover?

I bought a new t56 2 years ago for my 2000 z28 which will pop out of reverse on occasion . Just went to install it today, but decided to put it in my 408ci 99 z28. Anyway I get the old trans out and go to install the throw out bearing. The coupler for the hydraulic line would not fit in the relief cut in the front cover? Also I noticed the new trans had a plug in the top of the front cover. And the bolt holes lined up, but the circle recess was also different??? How many front covers did they make? It is not a LT1 cover. And the input shaft is correct. Is it a possible gto front cover? Is there a difference I am not aware of 99-2000? Any help would be appreciated. Will post pics when I can.

CTS-V was machined for the plug; GTO was not.

Thank you. On a good note. The trans I was going to remove came with the car. It was supposedly rebuilt 10k ago. With no way to confirm I was just going to swap it out. I did not notice the hardend input shaft when i put The motor in. I took the cover off and saw some upgrade( pads, keys, etc). So I am going to use it in my 2000 any way lol. The cover is interchangeable right? Just make shure the input shaft is shimmed correctly?

the main cases are all the same. so the short answer is yes. just make sure your peripherals are correct...slave/bellhousing/pilot..ect.
