t56 alignment trouble
Hey guys, need some help! Got my LS engine in and everything looked fine!, but when I installed the t56 the shifter is nowhere handy to lined up in the tunnel, I'm thinking I might have my motor mounts on wrong, and thats why im having problems, anyone have any idea if that's possible? And pics or info would be great, it sits further to the passenger side, thanks in advance guys
ok I have some pics, but first let me say I had my cam shells on wrong, so last night I changed them out, what a huge difference! but I'm still not sold on the shifter location, I should have moved the engine ahead another 1 or 2 inches, so the shifter could sit in the proper location, but that would be addinig more weight to the front of the car which I don't want.
so In the pics you'll see that it still sits to the right to much, if you have any pics can you post them? I cant find any good pics of the shifter hole with the t56, thanks

Hour and a half? Really? Making people guess their way through that it is a swap, that is it a third gen F-body, and that it was originally a T5 car isn't a solid way to get an answer unless you like half-baked guesses.
The T5 you pulled or that the car originally had has a shifter position that's farther forward (relative to the engine/bellhousing face) than the 93-02 T56s from 4th gens. Easy enough to measure if you have old and new.
I believe a slight offset shifter is available from Red Roberts. Maybe Bruce has copied it and had it made in China by now even. Measure where the boot opening site vs. where the stick sits now and order accordingly. It may take Red's Slick Stix shifter plus an offset stick to make it close.

thanks jdm, usually someone got something right away, but anyway I knew the t56 was longer and I don't have the t5 so I cant measure, I'm more concerned with alignment in the centre console, also got to figure out pinion angle so so work ahead, thanks for the reply!

Can't tell crap from your pictures, let me ask you how much to paint my house, and I'll show you a picture of just the garage door. Get real, ain't no mind readers here.

When I did a T56 transplant I wasn't happy with the shifter position in the console either.
I had a block of steel made for me at a machine shop (about $30.00) with holes that lined up with the shifter base and and a series of holes for the cheapy "short stick" type shifter lever.
That moved the lever a 1/2" to the left (thickness of the block) and I could mount the lever forward or rearward on the block as required.
I bolted it all together with a dab of locktite and drove for three years without issues.
The stock shifter boot hid it all nicely so it looked like factory.
