Default howling after going into 2nd at 90mph

I was going 90 trying to get the car to go into 4th but it went into 2nd and now there is some howling from the rear and is after 40mph under acceleration if you put the clutch in it stops. the noise kind of sounds like tires howling. what could it be? 1998 Camaro SS

The pinion nut could have backed off a bit, I have seen that before.

Yup, lost pinion pre-load. Better fix it fast or the gears will scream bloody murder and need to be replaced.
