My beater truck grinds when I put in reverse.
I have a 1992 beater truck I use to drive to work. But when I put in reverse it grinds sometimes . If I put in reverse slowly it does not grind. What could be wrong?

If it has a sliding idler reverse( non synchronized) you will have to get used to waiting for the disc to spin down. Sometimes shifting to 5th before reverse does the trick. If it is a synchronized reverse - you could have worn it out. Again the 5th - reverse technique works. You did not say what beater your truck is so I don't know what model trans you have.

The reverse synchro ring is probably worn. If you hold the clutch down a little longer before trying to put it in gear, in probably wont grind. That gives the countershaft some time to slow down on its own.
