Shifter VERY hard to move

Shifter VERY hard to move 
I was cruising yesterday in 6th gear, and when i went to downshift, i had to fight it just to get to neutral.Now the shifter is kinda stuck in neutral, but if i muscle it i can get it in 1st. 
Had it towed to my house and i was wondering what you guys think.

If it won't go in gear(any) with the engine running. your clutch is not releasing. It should shift freely with the engine off. A broken strut( incert) would not cause it to stick in neutral. You can remove the shifter to see if the plastic socket has come loose and is a potential problem.
