Default Grinding... need help!

Hey guys, here's the situation. I have about 100k miles on my car, i have no idea when the last time the previous owner replaced the clutch or anything with the car... when i first got my car last year i needed to replace the slave cylinder. I got a B&M short throw shifter and installed it myself. With my stock shifter and the B&M shifter, my car always seemed to grind everytime i try to shift quickly. This didnt happen when i first had the car but about 4 months ago it started happening. I also notice it happening more right when i start the car, then after 10 min or so of driving it doesnt happen as easily but still does grind. it happens mainly upshifting 1-2 2-3 and 3-4. 4-5 and 5-6 doesnt ever grind. Down shifting doesnt usually grind, but sometimes it does.

I asked some friends and they said that i might be shifting too quick for the trans, but i have a hard time believing that. Coould it be a clutch problem or maybe i need to rebuild my tranny? I would love any and all info on this cause the grinding is really an annoying problem.

Maybe try something cheap, like a fluid swap? Just to see if it fixes your problem...

Here's a thread that discusses options on that: Which T56 fluid?

Just a thought...

I agree first step is a trans fluid change. My own personal experience has found that plain old Dexron III ATF, non-synthetic shifts smoother than the expensive Royal Purple ATF.

If this does not help, I would get clutch looked at as it sounds like you are not getting complete dis-engagement which can cause the grind.

I personally DO NOT recommend the Royal Purple, or any synthetic ATF. I use Advanced Auto Parts gallon bottle of Dexron III fluid.

As suggested, read this https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290247.

I have the same grinding problem where it grinds when i shift but only happens when i go from 2-3. Usually when i first start up the car and sometimes when im running the car hard like racing.

search this site for "drill mod" to correct the 2-3 grind. GM put an orifice in the clutch line to create a sort of hydraulic delay in the clutch engagement. you drill this out, and the clutch action becomes much more crisp.

...and change the fluid anyway.
