Default 98/99 master and hydraulic throw outs

What was the problem with these early models that it is recommended to swap out for the revised versions? Is it a drag racing thing or just bad design? I have never had a problem with mine to date and was looking to replace if needed. Thanks for the input.

I don't know the exact reason as for people upgrading, but I do know that mine showed no signs up until one cold night, my clutch got soft for a couple presses. The next morning it continued to feel soft and unresponsive. I parked the car for 2 weeks, bought a clutch and upgraded hydraulics...replaced...and all is well.

Point of that story...just cause it hasn't shown signs yet...doesn't mean it won't suddenly happen.

I didn't think the early masters were a culprit - I thought it was just the slave??
