Default How to work an manual tranny!!

i've had my SS for almost 8 months now and it's my first manual tranny car!! Well...i was wondering at wat rpm's do u guyz launch the car and wat rpm do u shift into the next gear...also with the traction control on or off!! I tried it with the traction control on but the car bogs alot and with it off it juss seems to wanna burn rubber all into 2nd gear!! i know how dumb i may sound but when i race people i end up winning most of da time but i know i can do better if i knew how to take off right!!

in my novice opinion, the key is not mashing the gas and dumping the clutch, that = no traction/burn rubber into second. if you want to race try to go from a roll as much as possible, manuals are much better at roll racing. I usually shift at 5500 rpm on the tach, this is done because the tach is very slow and if you try to shift at the redline your going to hit the limiter. work on your shifting untill it is perfect and you can hit every gear with out a miss and with out taking to long (pay special attention to the 2-3 shift). i guess if you want to race from a dig you should rev up to maybe 2 or 3k and quickly let the clutch out, don't dump it. also remember that the m6 is the almight parts breaker and it has it's sights set on your 10-bolt.

I agree, i shift at 5600-5700 rpm, because on our cars that rpm is where your peak power is at. as far as spinning goes try to stay away from dig races, rolls are where its at with some 315 DR's. Dont be scared to shift hard, remember the less time in between shifts, the less speed you are not gonna lose.

I would suggest getting a Pro 5.0 shifter, If you were to change yours......

Launch with the traction control off, it only bogs the car, and it also handicaps you as a driver when your learning how to launch the car....

I used to shift at about 6000 or 6100. Even though our cars make peak power at like 5600, they make more power from 5600-6100 than they do from 3000-3500, so shifting higher puts you into more power in the next gear.

I wound out the car in 3rd one day, around 5750 I felt it "level off" and shifted at 5900 as it felt SLOWLY to be dropping a tad. Not a brick wall, but they do level off.

I shift mine at 6700 on motor and 6300-6400 on the kit! As for launching the car, rev it up to about 2500-3000 and slip out on the slip quickly and you should be on the floor at the top of 1st gear.
