Default Diameter pipe for 5/6 gear install?

I'm getting ready to rebuild my transmission and I want to have the tools on hand so I won't have to make a trip to town during the process. I've already got the snap ring pliers and I'm working on the 5/6 gear puller. Just to let you know, I'll be installing a steel 3/4 shift fork and a synchro rebuild kit. I won't be messing with any of the bearings.

What I don't have is a tool to re-install the 5/6 gear once I'm putting it all back together. I don't have access to a press and I heard you can use a hollow steel pipe and re-install the 5/6 by tapping on the end of it. Does anyone know the inner diameter of the pipe needed to slide over the shaft the 5/6 gear seats on? I searched for the answer, but came out empty handed. Any help is appreciated.

For anyone looking for this info in the future, I measured it and ended up using a 2" inner diameter steel pipe about 2' in length. I used this pipe to install the 1/2 synchro and the 3/4 synchro housing. I'm confident it will work for the 5/6 also.

Sorry I didn't see this before, I also use a 2" pipe x 15" long. If you can find a bolt that will thread into the end of the shaft that is long enough you can slowly "thread" the 5/6 down onto the mainshaft. That's how the factory tool works.

Yeah, I was going to fab up a tool just like the one you described, but I was short on time so I didn't have a chance to make it. Thanks for the suggestion though.
