I bought a core transmission off a member here a while ago. He told me that it was a 2002 camaro trans that one day it just wouldn't go into reverse. I started the rebuild today and noted that I need a new output shaft. I'll never make more than 650 crank hp, and rarely run slicks. Is the viper output shaft worth the extra $500?
Something weird I noticed was that the shift forks are steel with plastic. I thought camaros were supposed to have Al shift forks?

All the shift pads are steel? If it's stock there should be 2 aluminum and 2 steel. If someone has already been through it may have a 3rd steel fork in the 3-4.
Should be
1-2: Alum
3-4: Alum(steel?)
5-6: Steel
Rev: Steel
If you have the extra cash I say go big or go home. Do what you can afford, the Viper shaft is a nice piece and is on my wish list when/if I have to go back through mine.
Edit: if I remember correctly, some of the 2002's had a steel 3-4 installed at the factory...maybe someone else can confirm or deny this.
