Default kinda feel like a dumba$$

i did a tranny fluid change on my t56 since i got some royal purple atf for so cheap, so i wasn't sure about how to put fluid in the fill hole and we had what looks liek a calk gun with a tube on it so we stick the tube in the hole and get a little over 3 qts of atf in and then it just starts comeing out, i tried letting it sit going threw the gears and i couldnt get anymore then 3 in, kinda worried about it since it says 4qts is what i need

and i noticed this morning it was grinding gears but after a little bit it was fine which was wierd.

any ideas?

i kinda feel like dumba$$
thanks

It does require you to fill the tranny until the fluid starts leaking out of the fill hole, just like with the differential. What you can do is buy a couple feet of hose (clear tubing is fine) and fish the tubing through the engine bay until you can slide a couple inches of the hose into the fill hole. Now, just attatch a funnel to the end of the hose in the engine bay and fill her up.

oh ok got ya i basically did what you said but the clear tube is connected to my gun, just thought something may be up since it only took a little over 3 qts.

i'm gonna get it on the lift tomorrow and check it out again since i'll be doing my diff then.

i hope its not my slave or something blah

it should take 4 quarts, not 3, either you didnt let it drain well enough and you already had fluid left in there or you were filling it through the drain plug hole and not the fill plug hole which is located right above the drain plug....

the fill plug says fill right by it and its located farther up on the trans on the drivers side, and the drain said drain by it and it was located on the passenger side towards the very bottom of the trans

i let it drain till no more fluid came out but maybe some was still in there or something

one of the most important things is to have the vehicle level while filling the trany.
on four level jack stands. good luck

the next time you do this, screw using the fill plug on the side:

1. Pull your shifter ball of (lefty loosey)
2. Pull your shifter cover off (it snaps into the console and don't worry some clips break)
3. Unbolt your shifter from the top of the tranny (10mm bolts (4) I think?)
4. Pull that shifter and pour in 4 quarts of ATF from there.
5. When reinstalling the shifter put a small bead of RTV Gasket Maker around the edge of it.

This seems extensive but trust me it takes 5 minutes max and it beats the hell out of getting under the car and trying to get in the fill hole at that angle.

lol...thank you so much! I totally forgot about that little bastard. That's actually the most annoying/difficult part of that project. You can't see the freakin holes in the body for the life of you. My advice on that little bitch is to get all the corners in so you can have it caked out for the rest of those bolts. Good point spuds...

Royal Purple will cause stock blocker rings to swell. You should never use royal purple in a stock transmission.
