Question main shaft rear seal

Does the tapered part face the speed sensor gear or away? This is the last thing I need to do to assemble the tranny after replacing my reverse shift fork pads and I don't remember wich way it goes.

I hate to use the 50/50 90 rule.

To my understanding the flat surface should always face the part you want to seal and the tapered part out?
