Default Transmission identification

If the M6 is out of a car how do you tell if it is out of a LS1 Fbody car and not a LT1, Vette, etc...

I don't know anything about these trannys so what would I be looking at on the bellhousing? Also didn't the 93-97's have skip shifts? And where is this solenoid?

You'll definitely be able to tell if its from a vette.

Its rear mounted in vettes.

Major difference between the LT1 and LS1 T56 is the LS1 tranny has a center mounted throwout bearing slave cylinder, while the LT1 T56 has a more traditional slave cylinder mounted on the outside of the bellhousing and actuates the throwout bearing through a fork.

If you need to ID it from 20 feet away just look for a bolt hole right on top of the bellhousing, a bellhousing to engine bolt hole right on top means it's an LS1 trans, it will also be missing one just to the right if you're looking at it from behind.
An LT1 has no hole on top, and has six bolt holes to hold it to the engine.
No need to dig around on it, just look at the top.
