Default Need to understand T56 fluid level

When I was working on my rear end, I jacked the car up too high from the front, the result = tranny fluid leaked out where the DS connects because the DS was out. I'm not sure how much fluid I lost, but there was a good sized puddle.

So I decided to top off the tranny fluid. I got the car perfectly level, but when I pulled out the fill plug, fluid started seeping out! I had to jack up the car about 6 inches higher on the driver side just to get the fluid to stop coming out of the fill hole. Did the tranny already have enough fluid in it? Did it have too much to begin with? Please help

If the fluid runs out when the car is level , you are plenty good .

The T56 service manual calls for 4 qts. I was told by Six Speeds, Inc. that the drain plug level is only 3.2qts and to insure I added all 4qts through the shifter hole during my rebuild.

Well thats So theres no real way to tell where the fluid level is at unless you drain the whole thing, then put the full 4 quarts in...

I refilled mine, car level, thru the fill hole with a pump. I got in 3.9 quarts before it started coming out of fill hole.

Okay, I feel a little better now. I took the car out tonight, and all felt fine.

Can this cause any problems if you don't have enough fluid in it?
Since I seen this thread I changed my fluid, what came out was about 1 1/2 pints short of 4 quarts. But it spilled out of the oil fill, when I refilled it I jacked up one side and pumped a gallon in.
