You have a leak somewhere if it is low.
Look at the master inside at the firewall where the rod goes into it from the pedal for seapage. You might need a master.
But bleeding is good for it, fresh fluid will improve the pedal feel every time.
It is an LT1 though right? If so there might be a allen on the external slave you can bleed it with. Otherwise you have to bleed it with the factory meatod like a mity-vac.

The easiest thing to do is to flush and refill the hydraulics using a fluid with a higher boiling point. You may also want to check your hydraulic lines and insure that they are routed behind the heat-sheild near the header. You can also wrap the lines with a heat-resistent wrap.
