Anything from a 228 and down you can. I have asked multiple people on here about it. cause I was in the market when I had my trans am. Then wrecked it and had to use that money plus a 4 wheeler for a dp on my camaro lol.
all I need to run the 228r from tsp is full exhaust and a tune. but they said to really get the most out of it or any cam is a good set of matched heads. But hell I could of had a lot of people just blowing smoke but a few I trust cause they saw me through alot of bs I was going through about a year ago.
I looked at that futral cam thing, and with me not knowing what all is done to the tranny idk if I should fill it out till I know for sure what kind of stall converter I have and the only thing I found out on how to do so is to hold the breaks and punch it and see what rpm and speed it jumps to... sound right? I know if I go to do a burn out the tires wont spin till 2500 rpms does that let me know anything? Idk much about autos still trying to figure it all out.

If you change the cam, going above .520 lift, you need to change the springs. Even then you should change springs. You can get good springs, and hard ware for $200.00 or so. It's cheep insurance. Also, I've emailed Futral about a few combonations and they have (Allen or Charlie) mailed me back a custom grind each time. Just fill it out best of your knowledge and see what you get!!
Try setting the parking break (emergency break) and hold your foot on the break and see what you get. That will be close. I'm guessing that 3200-3600 will be what you get.

Yea that didn't work, I pulled the e brake all the way and pressed all the way down on the brake and when I floored it it just spun and the rpms shot up to 4000 and kept climbing

Don't floor it! Just set the break, hold the breaks, and ease into it. When you hear/feel the tire break over let off a little and ease back into it. You should be able to get with in a couple hundred RPM of the stall

Yup completely forgot to this morning. And I leave my car at my work cause im working in my town so I just have the other guy pick me up and drop me off... Save some gas and keep a few miles off the car. So is anyone else on here more now that the olympics are on? I have to keep my phone on the charger as soon as I get home cause my wife has all the TV's turned to the olympics. I just sit on my phone or play with my kid when he is awake.

Man some of those cam specs you listed are gonna put you into more wear & tear than you realize IMO anyway. If getting a custom grind I'd go through Pat G, he has some great results with those new lobes & grinds. There is no need to shift so high either, with the right combo you will still run a strong number shifting at 6500. When you start tryin to go 7000+ you have to really start accounting for the valve train components including the actual valves used in the head.
If you want a solid budget build that will make power get a set of stock 5.3's port/polished & milled a little. Get a cam in the 228 range with some good springs & tune. If you have someone reputable work the 5.3's you'll be happy with the results added with a cam in that range, probably will be surprised actually. and wont be out 3k either.

Well I have 4:11's and from what I have read the past couple days is alot of people run out of gear and can't break the 120 mark through the traps. But im going with a 28" tire so that should help also. I guess I need to get it on a dyno see where my powerband is and get to the track and see where im at. So much science lol. But thanks for the info. A friend of mine had a ms3, 2.5 ls6 heads, and full exhaust and would turn 7200. And I had another guy running a trex afr heads and he went to 7000. So idk, just stuff I need to figure out. I jumped the gun a little cause I am no where near ready for this yet.

Unless those combos had been closely looked at those boys got lucky their engines didnt commit suicide, LOL.
Just for a comparo, my buddy had a 99' Z28 with a SS3600 stall, 3.73's, tune, lid & TB. He was making passes at about low-mid 12's here in Tulsa after the stall depending on DA & traction. On juice he was running a 100 shot & making consistent 11.6x passes. The DA here in Tulsa really helps but that shows you the potential with limited mods put together properly.

Sounds like a hell of a car, and thats all he had... And what size tire was he running, and was it just a street tire? Did he have 241's or 853's? Stuff like that all adds up to a stronger motor and a win or not.

Gonna snag the CF SS spoiler that's for sale in the classifieds right now. Only $150. Just hope I was the first one to get to him. Pretty sure I was depending on the thread traffic. The paint on mine has a good crack in it so I was eventually going to get one anyway, but since this one's so cheap I'm gonna snag it now. Probably gonna throw my SS with LED 3rd light up in case anyone knows someone.

Well I talked to tick performance and I have him building me a custom cam, we are still tossing ideas and info back and forth. I'll be ordering my tires thus weekend and when I get my cam kit, I'll be getting a 36-3800 converter shortly after. Putting it all in then getting it tuned and be ready to drag some ***.

Natural gas pipelines. I'm usually up Northeast in Pa., Ohio, New York area. But since the wife is due early Sept. I took one in Bartlesville which is only about 2hr. from home.
