Default Offical Greetings.. of the Turdbo Grand Prix

Since don't post here often and just lurk and since joining in on the Loser eats crow
contest thought I'd make myself known

Been flogging a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix at the track in 2013.

200k mile stock shortblock with a cam, yocal heads and v6 fbody intake.
T67 turbo with some e85 to wake it up. And a bunch of trans crap.

Best has been 10.41@132 with a 1.56 60 foot.

Looking to improve on that a bunch this year.. hopefully.

Goodies lined up being done right now is a new PI multi-disc converter.
1200hp GMR input shaft. Few random internal improvements. Transbrake & 2-step.
150# PAC Springs.

While the car is fun it is a pain to launch consistently so hoping that
is resolved if all above works out.

Goals for the year is to tap 9's on the T67. Ran into a problem where
converter was just to abused by the last visit to the track, started to whine.
60 foots improved a bunch, added more boost, car wasn't getting quicker.
Check the TC Slip and was ~1000rpm slipping and just getting worse.
Loosing lot of power up top. Possibly the 130# springs were hurting as shifting ~6800.

To insure 9's, I picked up a new Precision CEA 7675 BB Turbo for a deal. I will
be running this later in the year. Was gonna run it first thing, but decided
I really want 9's on the smaller guy since its not maxed out yet.

Anyways here is some media of it. The car is ugly. Bought it for $1000 from a chick
in the hood. Have a new fiberglass stock style hood, fenders/bumper covers/ect sitting
for now. Not sure when that will be done, but for now, I enjoy it looking like a total
turd.. thus.. the Turdbo.

Enjoy.. hate.. or whatever.. Its all for fun

^--- One has to get use to this if gonna be dumb enough to go this route...

^--- Where its been for a few weeks now and will be until all the custom trans stuff is done.
Current trans is "fine" .. other then say the converter. 100+ runs on it mostly in the 10's and held up fine and no other major failures.

But I want more

Some videos ....

None of this wouldn't of even happened if it wasn't for guys like PRJ
who did our trans, rewired the car, and other fun tasks. And my buddy
Sean who does a lot of the hardwork and making custom parts and
letting it live at his awesome garage.

So anyways.. Been here 10 years now.. figure I'd say Hi finally

I've driven it on the streets/highway a few times. But never street
raced during those times. Just a lot of spirited driving.

It is a pretty fun and interesting drive. To much fun actually so I have so
far refrained from street racing. Being its only got a 6 gallon fuel cell,
and transmission has been converted to a 3 speed, and e85,
MPG isn't super great. I plan on trying to do a local "street scene"
event that is put on (if it happens for 2014), and see how it holds up.
Lucky for me, FWD class is allowed slicks

ya sorry about that. I was in this section reading and forgot to go to
the right section, so if admin can move it, that would be great.

Weight reduction helps.. car is somewhere in the 3000-3100 range. Not
super light, but lighter then stock for sure. Many others much lighter then
me but are totally stripped down to nothing. I have most of the interior,
working heat, and power windows still.

The 3800 reacts well to a turbo. The motor itself has very little done.
Stock pistons/rods/crank.. Just new factory bolts and bearings but
rest is 200k miles old. Heads are just ported and machined to work
with the cam lift and new springs. Stock rockers. Upper intake is off
a v6 fbody, and stock L67 TB adapted to fit. Double roller chain and
a ZZP st5 cam. Virtually hundreds of dollars into the motor which I
got for free.. sat in the back of a van for many years, was out of a 96
buick.

Fuel system is a bit overkill but ensures I won't run out of fuel other then
needing to up the injector size.

Turbo is not all that big in the grand scheme of things. Not small, but not
huge either. A perfect size I'd size for majority of people with these. Great
on the street and great on the track.

The most work, money, and time is in the transmission and more is needed to keep
going further.

e85 reacts well with a turbo in general, and helps keep it from going boom.

Getting the *** end up with the $5 cable mod, and coil overs to drop the front
down helps a ton. Keep weight transfer very minimal.

PRJ gave us plans for a coil over setup that we can refurbish. If the shock gets
worn, spend $40 and replace it and put it all back in. Instead of the other options
of just throwing away the majority of the coil over and spending big $$ to replace.
Sean did all the machine work, while I sourced out and bought parts like the buckets
from a company that makes air bags.

Don't have a picture for some reason of the completed deal but gets the idea across.

Tube slides into the bucket. Buckets were machined on the bottom to clear axle boots
better. A sleeve kit for a mustang was used. Saab shock used to slides into the tube,
and lock cap screws into the top (not in picture) and locks it all in place. All done for
about $500. Works well, dropped 6lbs, and cheap to upkeep.

Not sure if this done by other companies, but this is damn nice I think,
and PRJ did an excellent job of getting us plans to make them.

Bad *** ride. I'm sure that surprises a lot of people. Does that rake help you with traction or what?

Very much so. Even tho its FWD, taking off, the weight transfer still
wants to go to the rear. For a RWD car, thats is great and desired. FWD
not so much. Maybe with a small compact light car, may not so much,
but for me and others it is.

Its literally a few dollars to lock the rear end up like that. Once done
it won't budge. And when done, just undo it and put the car back to
its original resting place. The front is dropped as much as possible to get
the weight put onto the front tires as much as possible.

My goal is to be able to get into 1.4x 60 foots this year which I think
on a nice prep/clean track, shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks all. Its been a fun project. Raises a few eyebrows at the track and get
asked a lot of questions. Just a nice hobby car to spend with my friends
working on and all of us beat on it at the track.

Eventually I'll start working on getting it nice looking again. I just want it too look
pretty much factory as possible. Bought the version the uses the factory hinges instead
of a pin down. Pin down would have only been 12lbs vs 24lbs.. but I am lazy and rather
take the hit on a few lbs vs dealing with pinning and unpinning and have to deal with
move the hood around constantly.

But for now it can blend into a Walmart parking lot and no one would probably give
it a second look

I guess why do anything? Sit back and do nothing or conform to the norm.

I've wanted to do one for many years and finally at a point in my life
I can do so. I get to work on it with my closest friends and have a fun
time doing so and taking it to the track to beat on. Its different and
sticks out at the track. Other then the transmission, every thing else
is cheap and easy to get. Stock engine blows its oh no, hundreds of
dollars to replace. I've always liked the platform, and so on...

While it may not be someone elses cup of tea, for me its been a pure
joy to play with.
