Default Cigarette lighter plug removal HELP please!

I've taken the middle console off my car because I want to mount something in the hole where the cigarette lighter is. I've unplugged the wiring from the back of the socket, but can't get the socket to come out of the console. Looks like it should but I'm afraid I'm going to break it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

That's what it looked like to me. I even put some pliers on them and couldn't make them budge. Decided to stop before I broke it. I was trying to mount the direct wire smartcord head for my new Passport X50. I ended up mounting it in my ashtray. Thanks for the help regardless.

Mine on my 98 was screwed in, there was two metal pieces and one held the backside while you screwed the plug part into the housing to hold it from the front.

I destroyed mine when I took it out but I didn't care...I don't smoke, would never let anyone else smoke in my car, we already have another 12V plug-in, and I mounted my e-cutout switch there.
