'99 stock ls1 rearend leak?
Just bought a 95% stock ls1 t/a a couple months ago. The past week I've been hearing a metallic noise underneath the car about every two seconds when coasting in 2nd and 3rd gear. Checked underneath as best as I could and noticed my rearend has a slight leak. Just need gear oil and a new seal or a new rearend?

Probably have to open it up to see if any of the gears are messed up. Not a difficult job. The pinon seal is prone to leaking. Mine did on my 10 bolt and I replaced the seal. Did ok for a bit then started seeping again. Upgraded to a 9in after that

Yes open your rear end pumpkin, there is a magnet on the other side of the cover... You'll know if your gears are shot out if there is a bunch of metal on it.. Plus it will be visual by looking at the gear itself..
If all is well, autozone sells new gaskets.. Use a little high temp rtv sealer on the gasket they give on both sides...

Ok, thanks. Also I've done a little research today and usually bad rear ends have a constant grinding noise, right? Mine hasn't grinded at all, It just has a slow little knock. Could it be an axle? And what's the best gear oil to use?
