Default 99 camaro ss feeling slow

I have a 99 camaro m6 that has 95k on it. I bought it a few weeks ago and it felt down on power compared to my 01 camaro. So far i put on headers with a ory that goes through the stock slp dual dual exhaust and replaced the spark plugs and o2 sensors. the car felt a lot faster than original, but still not up to what i think it should be. So I went to the track and ran a best of 15.1 at 96...lol. The y pipe hits the floor pretty bad when I was launching, which I think cause the knock sensors to read false knock and pull a lot of timing. After I left the track...if I woulod roll into first at 30 mph and car would pull a lot harder through the gears.

So is the y pipe my problem? Or should I be looking at something else? Maybe cleaning the maf sensor? fuel filter? fuel injectors? maybe find someone with a scan gauge?

thanks!

I really doubt the y pipe would do that. How many miles on the car? Maybe its time for a full tune up and seafoam?

95k...what is a full tune up? I did spark plugs and o2 sensors already and felt a huge improvement. How much timing can the ecu pull if it thinks there is knock?

You can keep these cars running the same just about forever as long as you do these. Check Siggie

cleaned the maf sensor today...to say it was dirty would be an understatement. there was about 6 bugs in the screen part and the wires were completely black and having gunk on them. Car feels a lot better...but still feels soft if i launch...

For the Y-pipe banging are you sure it's not your transmission? My 98's tranny mount went out and the transmission would bang the floor hard on hard shifts and launches.

Zmax has been shown by tests to increase the corrosiveness of your oil, as a result the company has had suit filed for false advertising among other things. IIRC it basically equated to dumping water in the oil.

Oil additives are crap for the most part. Steer clear IMO. The only possibile exception would be something like ZDDP for the old flat tappet cammed engines, since most modern oils seem to be reducing zinc content. Even still, I'd rather just stick to a specialty oil like VR-1 that has the proper base structure for old engine applications.

This is often the result of K&N-type filter use. People over-oil them, and this is what happens over time. I'd rather just stick with paper for any applications that use an MAF. And if you absolutely insist on getting that 0.5 hp gain from the K&N, then make sure to check/clean the MAF on a somewhat regular basis (at least with every plug change).

A friend's car had a piece of hair or something on his MAF, car slowed .5-.7 in the 1/8th mile before they found it.

Cleaned the MAF and picked it all back up.

Thanks For The Info.... I hope It Hasn't Done Anything To My Engine Already. That Also Means An Oil Change Is In Order To Get That Stuff Out Of the System.

-_-

Don't worry, lots of people have fallen victim to the claims of oil additives. Some of these products end up being harmless, while some are actually bad for the engine. But one thing they all have in common is they rarely do any good whatsoever.

Just stick to a good quality oil that's right for your application and change it regularly.

I Plan On It From Now On... Anything Bad About Octane Booster?

We Use It If We Can't Find 93 Octane.

very few octane boosters do enough to raise it any...

1 point of octane boost is actually .1 octane number so most add less than 1 octane number (Ie change 87 to 88)

N.O.S. have some out that are supposed to raise it by 30 or more points, which might be worthwhile for emergencies
