grade of oil

I have a 4.8 2001 in a 74 mgb and im wondering if the factory recomened 5w30 is the oil I should be running

You should be good. You must live in a place with very cold climate correct?

Basically a stock engine? Then yes a 5 or 10w30 will be fine.
