Default SFC pre drilled holes in under body

Since sub frame connectors didn't come stock on 4th gens, why did GM have those two pre drilled holes on each side of the under body (front of the car) for them to bolt into? What were these holes originally intended for?

There are three holes up front per side, you'll see these kind of holes all around the unibody. I think its probably drain holes so water doesn't get stuck and rust out everything.

^Makes sense to have drain holes. I wonder why they would have threaded them though? Surely the bean counters had a reason!

I'm sure some were used on the assembly line.
