Default 100mm Airlid not fitting, cut out part of top radiator support

Hello everyone

I purchased a 100mm airlid and it is not fitting, neither into the clamps nor into the 4 pockets in the back, the 100mm opening is too big, so I was thinking to shave/cut off a part of the top radiator support, right there in the middle of the 4 pockets? Thanks

If it makes a difference, it's a steel lid. I also bought a aftermarket bellow, a coupler reducer and a 85mm MAF, so fitment should not be a problem once I can just get it in to it's place

Many thanks

You shouldn't need any modification to the top of the radiator support. I'd make an effort to return it since it doesn't fit correctly, the get a FTP lid. Now if for some strange reason you're set on using that lid I would instead re-install the radiator support and carefully heat it up with a head gun in the area that need clearance, then you can use the lid or piece of metal pipe to form a valley in the area that needs more clearance. Try to keep the heat to only the area that needs the additional clearance if possible.

That's what I had to do with a 98mm lid. It's fairly straight forward and you can hardly see it with the lid on. I say cut away!!

I'd love to return it, if I didn't prep, prime, basecoat and clearcoat the lid first

What was I thinking haha

I forgot to ask, what tool did you use? And did you cut a hole or just skin/sand it down

Thanks

I used a dremel and marked roughly where the lid would sit and notched it. I will post up a pic the evening.

I did it, cut a hole in top radiator support, put the lid on, used weather stripping all around so there is no air leaking and used stock maf and bellow. (Also did the FRA mod)Now, the car is louder, way louder, (also have a muffler delete).

throttle response went up, especially when I go WOT but when I'm cruising around and I step on the gas (not all the way down) it feels like the car is choking? It'll get loud, stay at around 3k rpm and then in 2 seconds go. It sounds like it's choking, I can hear it sucking in air, but why the delay with throttle response, could it be because it's a stock maf and not something larger?

Thanks to anyone who answers (:

When I did mine i put the 85mm in but didn't hook it up and Retuned my VE tables. Seemed to run better than the stock setup.

I see. Would you recommend I do a tune?

Also, I just found out the correct term is "boggy" throttle, not choking (:

Are you full bolt ons? If so then I would say yes. I have hp tuners pro so I can do the easier tuning stuff myself. To get your money's worth from taking it somewhere to get it tuned I would be at least full bolt ons.

Not really, just a Airlid with the FRA mod, K&N, and a muffler delete. Engine is stock, whixh is why im suprised at the boggy acceleration after switching out the airlid

If anyone is wondering, I put tape on the AIR because the hose wouldn't reach, so I put a filter on the hose and I'm looking for something to plug the hole with
