Default best X-pipe settup?

Since I FINALLY got my Kooks on I know I want to go with an X pipe but I'm not sure of the measurments and stuff to maximize my potential. I'm open to muffler ideas too but so far I'm gonna go with flowmasters (I know the one for the F-body sucks total ***** but I hear the duals are VERY nice and truely effective). Im gonna dump before the axle (for now anyway) with turndowns. Would it be cheaper to have all of this done by the exhaust shop or should I order the stuff and just have them install it all?

I ordered all of my stuff except the mufflers from Dr Gas and had the shop supply the mandrel bends and install it all.

What's the pros and cons of an X-Pipe over a Y-Pipe? Is an X-Pipe set up mainly for true duals or can it be used to replace the stock Y-Pipe in say an FLP LTs with off-road pipe and QTP dual electric cutouts to GMMG exhaust set up?
