What Heads to use
Hey I'm new to the site and the LS world but working on a LS1 swap on my 85 cutlass. I'm not sure yet what i want for power but don't want to end up down the road wanting more power and wishing I got the right set on heads the first time around. Any advice on what I should go with?

Without knowing your budget I would suggest either 243 or 799 castings (used price is $300-$500 per set), 243/799's are basically the same casting but the 243's could have came with lightweight sodium filled valves but not all did.
If you have more than a few hundred to spend on heads you can either looked for cnc ported 243/799 heads or go with some of the cheaper aftermarket heads that are available, There are quite a few good heads in this category depending on how much you want to spend. Good aftermarket heads run $1600 and up but not really needed to make good power but will make great power if you have the associated parts needed to get them to their potential.
Low budget I would stick with stock 243/799 heads and spend the money elsewhere, Mid budget I would go for the CNC version of the same heads.
High dollar heads I would recommend talking to a pro to put together the whole engine combination that will better fit your needs and go from there, There are just to many variable to consider to just say X Y or Z head is the best, There really isn't a best because different heads will be needed depending on the car you plan on putting it in and how you plan on using it.

Advanced induction, TEA, and Frankenstein are all great options for a budget friendly stock 799/243 casting. I myself went with AI and have been really happy with the results.
