Default 6.0L swap?

Looking into swapping a LSx style motor into my '91 GTA. However LS1's are ultra scarse up hear in Canada, but 6.0L truck motors aren't they are out right cheap.around 1800bux US for a '01 with everything on it.(Lots of Farmers), Can i use one of the Aluminum headed 6.0L truck blocks and have the heads shaved. I can get a Z06 manifold and most everything else. Would this be a hard thing to start from. This would be for a serious performance car. Its not like its my daily driver. I got all the time in the world to work with this car.

It is certainly possible and most LS1 externals and even the cams will fit into the 6.0L iron block - the exterior dimensions are slightly larger (in length) than an LS1/6. You won't really need the heads shaved since they run 10.1:1 I believe. This month's Super Chevy mag or Chevy Hi-Perfomance has a 6.0L build-up - it will answer most of your questions.

Yeah, do that. I replaced my LS1 block with a bored out 6.0L block. Externally they're nearly identical. I also have shaved aluminum 6.0L heads and a Z06 manifold like you're planning. It's a sweet setup. Just make sure to put in a HUGE cam.

if your going to throw in an iron block you might as well do a stroker. the blocks are identical to the 5.7's except for an alternator bracke hole you'll need to have tapped. are you just using the block or gonna use a stock 6.0 short/long block. 02 Slp is half right, the Lq9 has stock 10.1 compression but the Lq4 has 9.4 compression. with the Lq4 you'll need to have the heads milled to get the compression up and depending on how high it might be too much milling. consider having the chambers welded up.
