Default Headerwrap instead of heatshield?

I have the common problem of my corsa overaxle pipe resting and rattling upon my heatshield. Having the plastic gas tank I am weary of removing the over the axle heat shield... What if I took the heatshield off and put header wrap over this area of the pipe? It is a 3 inch pipe and I assume theres some header wrap somewhere that would fit around it.

But would it provide the same heat protection as the heat shield would?

Thanka in advance for replys!
