Default Gas tank

Okay! I am a pretty new F-Body owner. As I read through the forum I have seen many comments about having a Plastic gas tank. Well while I was installing my new exhaust this weekend, I banged up against my gas tank and it is metal. Is this abnormal? Or have I been reading the post's wrong?

From my understanding the pre 00 tanks are heavier than the 00 and up.

Only the 98's have the metal tank. 99+ have plastic.

Yeah, us 98 owners have those heavy, metal tanks. They only hold 15.5 gallons too, vs the 99 and up that are plastic and hold 16.8 gallons.

Yeah, but sometimes are 98 tanks are sought after because you can easily weld a sump into them for the hard core fuel systems.

arent the 98 tanks also baffled while the 99-up tanks use that bucket around the pump?
