Default LT1 or high mileage LS1?

I'm selling my 2001 Trans Am so I can buy something cheaper. Would I be better off buying a 98-99 high mileage LS1 or an older LT1?
I've read that the LS1 is more reliable than an LT1 but is that still true when you're comparing a high mileage LS1(100k+)?
How well does the LT1 take to mods?

You are on an LS1 site asking this?

I like the LT1, but it needs more to go faster. Stock for Stock, the heads, intake, exhaust, computer, and ingnition(opti-spark) are weaker. Still the LT1 architechture is almost the same as any SBC and can be made fast. I would go with the LS1.

LT1 takes very well to mods, but not as well IMO. But I'm no authority. I'd say gget a high mileage 98-99. Course I am partial to 98. I just hit 80K and she runs like brand new. its all in the maintenance that was done. and plenty of people have 100K+ LS1's with only bare minimum maintenance done. course youcould also go the route of LT1 and spray the **** out of her with less lieklyhood of damage. JM$.02 best of luck either way.

I have a high mile LT-1 Impala SS (125,000), and a high mile LS1 (107,000)
..except for my just developed tranny problem! Both run great. I owned LT-1 with near 200,000 miles on them and they ran as good as new. I maintain them very well however. I'd just buy whichever car you most wanted, that was the cleanest, and best deal. If the LS1 is priced about the same, and is in the same condition, get it. If you buy a LT1 and someone passes you up in the LS1 you'll be kicking yourself!

He is right. When it happens, you will be thinking to yourself, I never should have got rid of it. This is a no brainer. LS1 > LT1.
