Default Question about heads/cam and stall converter

Hey guys thanks for being so helpful in my last post.

I have been reading at it looks like some people but an aftermarket cam without changing to an upgraded heads. This seems like it is a much cheaper way to go than spending 2500+ on a head cam package. But i imagine the power gains arnt as high. Any more info on changing the cam without the heads??

ALSO, i am thinking about going A4 for a tranny in my ls1. A stall converter is a must, but is a clutch or better rear end needed to break into 11s?

Thanks alot Guys

To break into 11's you're going to have to put some power down. Although the A4 is going to be easier on the stock rear, plan on upgrading if you plan on hitting those numbers.

Not to knowledgeable on the H/C packages, but just a nice cam with the right setup can yield some pretty impressive numbers imo.

Heads and cam make more power than a cam on stock heads, but a lot of people run a cam on stock heads because more than half of the power gains from a heads/cam swap are from the cam. The cam being cheaper only sweetens the deal. Use the search button for more information.

You don't have an LS1 yet? If you are trying to decide between an M6 or A4 there are many, many threads covering the differences. For the best 1/4 mile times get an A4 with a high stall speed (at least 4k).

11's naturally aspirated on stock internals (SI and NA) is doable but not easy. You will probably need full bolt ons, high stall speed converter, weight reduction and some suspension work.
