Default Good deal or not?

I am pretty new here, and I was just wondering if this was a good deal.

A guy about 20 minutes from me is selling this in the paper

"Complete 97 vette LS1 Longblock, 55K miles, broken rod - $1000"

He said the pistons didn't hit the head. I am taking a mechanic with me to look at it, it there are no problems with it, is this a good price?

For a longblock i think its *decent*. Do you know what all he's including? How'd it not hit the head though?

I ending up buying it, it looked good to me. He said an injector leaked and filled the cylinder and when they tried to start it it broke. No damage to anything that I could tell, the rod was just broke I odn't know looks good to me. Came with complete longblock, heads, oil pan, valve covers. I think I got an ok deal.

It wasn't running when it broke? I don't know. Don't know much about piston engines.

Yeah, I hope not either. My uncle is an engine builder/desginer for NASCAR, and he is taking a look at it tomorrow so we will see.
