Default gears or convertor

Have a 2000 T/A(A4) with lid/filter, P&P TB, bellows, & a flowmaster catback. It has the stock 2.73 gears. Should I get gears or torque convertor next? I am looking at the Yank 3000 Stealth. I am wanting some more pick up off the line. Nothing extreme. I am in the Navy & don't know where I am going to be stationed at next. If I can get somewhere without emissions when I get back from the Middle East I will be getting Longtubes also.

Is it like Cali where even though you have out of state plates you have to do emissions to get a base sticker? I hope not because my mustang isn't going to pass I put in for Jacksonville, FL. Hawaii, & Virginia Beach.

converter. you'll see better mpg than getting gears and see better performance.

+1 for converter. I'd also be tempted to look at 3400-3600rpm range though. With an auto you only really need to worry about gears when you get a different cam.

I would gor for the converter first. I did my gears first and regreted doin it, because I was losin to some people with a similar setup and had the converter and not the gears.

It seems that you probably have your answer already, but just in case........

Converter. End of story.

They go hand in hand in terms of street driving and tightening up the converter, but for straight performance gears "ain't got nothin" on a good converter.

I would go 3500 minimum.

a vig 3200 seems like a great converter. it's very underrated from what i heard and actually has the stall of a 3600 with the streetability of a 3200 or less. from what i've gathered, if i ever get a converter, the vig 3200 is the one for me.

IF i ever do. IF my wallet ever fills

Stalls stalling higher than their rating is something alot of people dont like, it seems to be a problem with many manufacturers. What I would do is the stall, like everyone said, if it were me since mine is a DD and if i had 2.73's I would do a 3500 stall and 3.42's from an M6, great combo. But I have 3.23's factory and I dont see a reason to waste time on gears. Then again, GM Muscle has 2.73's and running 10's on a cam only/n2o car so its up to you, but Converter>Gears. Oh, and are you on OKDHM or am I trippin'?

no doubt do the stall converter no less than 3200. you can still do fine with the stock 2.73 gears but may want to upgrade to set of GM 3.42 gears.
