if your gonna dig in..you might as well forge the stuff..rods, pistons..ect. Most of the money when it comes to things liek that comes from the labor in doing the job. So if your gonna spend 1k for doing the rings....why not spend 1.5k on something better. 1k isn't an accurate figure..just using as an example. are you doing the work yourself? The amount of moeny that it would cost, you could probably get a forged 347ci motor from a sponser and just drop that in.

you can get a forged block/rotating assembly for 3500 or less. And just bolt your heads and other pieces in. You will have to look around for ring kits but i think diamond pistons sells rings.

Me and my brother in law are doing it all ourselves, as this being the frist ls1 we have ever done.... He is mostly a ford guy..... Hey ill take what I can get... anyway total rebuild, cam, valves, springs, intake, throttlebody, exhaust, pistons, etc.... but not on a very large budget.....wish I could drop in a 383.....

3500 dollars can get you
1) Lunati Forged rotating assembly
or
2) for 2800 you can get a budget 346 from sdpc
which gives you 700 for a nitrous kit
3) Or you can buy it from tsp,
TSP 347 cid Short Block- 2800
which also gives you 700 dollars for a nitrous kit.

are you pulling the motor yourself? your better off jsut buying a short block if you have the cash. that way you can't screw anythng up( not saying you would, but it would be a costly mistake)..buy it froma sponser...slap on your heads and call it a day.

I found this kit looks quite interesting..... You guys are probably right about just picking up a shortblock from a sponsor and would be costly if I made a mistake, but I just want to try to do it for myself, probably be alot easier your way but wheres the fun in that.....

you could buy an lq4 block and do a 402, i'm in pretty much the exact same boat as you nemo. I think i'm going to just do a forged 347. It was that, a 383 or the 402 and i picked the stock cubes mainly because of cost and i like the idea of FI later on while keeping the engine block aluminum & stcok cid

You would think this would be easier... I just dont know if im headed down the road of throwing money away or headed down the path of Righteousness.... Another problem is trusting the shops around me to do the block work......

It's also going to blow *** if i do a forged 347 with all the money gone and no extra power, i'll feel like i've just blown a stack of green. Even with the forged 347, there's still alot more ways to go about it than i realized. GAAGHGHHGHGH!!!
Very true I still have about three weeks to decide... I guess ill just have to do more reaserch.....

Now what if I just wanted to rebuild the motor the way it was, with the exception of new valves and springs, etc.... would the dealership be my best bet in locating new gaskets, bearings, seals......
