Default What is this noise? (3800 on a camaro)

Ive been hearing this noise for a while now. I dont drive the car often, but id really like to get it fixed. I can hear it better under the car, hence the reason the camera was placed there. Anyway, as you can hear in the video, the noise comes when you start and then when you rev after you let off. My mechanic said he thought it was something like the timing chain hitting the cover due to it being stretched...?

I was worried that maybe it was engine bearings, but he said it wasnt that. Im still concerned about it though.

The noise doesnt seem to match the rpm's, so im not thinking valvetrain. What do you guys think?

sounds more like a rod. if it were the chain it shouldnt do it when revved(it would be under a load and titen up)

Is the sound comming from the bottom of the car? I had some valvetrain lashing noise in my 96 v6 bird starting about 150k, but you could clearly tell it was comming from around the valve covers.

it certainly is not coming from the top. i could hear it better from underneath, but i didnt know exactly what i was looking for at the time, and i couldnt pinpoint it. i need to check a few areas a little more closely.

Could be a spun rod bearing. Hard to tell in a video. Have you taken a steth to it yet and listened to different parts of the motor while some one is *lightly* reving it?
