Default Alternator/power steering problem

This is the 2nd time Ive replaced my alternator in 6 months.

I'm trying to figure out what is killing my alternators, and I believe I may know - the power steering reservoir (Or whatever you pour the power steering fluid into, not sure if its the reservoir or the actual pump) is directily above the alternator. Both alternators I've pulled out have been covered in some dark fluid that I assess to be either oil or power steering fluid. Coupled with the fact that I have something wrong with my power steering and I have to keep adding fluid, I think I found the problem - the fluid is leaking into the vents on the alternator and shorting it out...but I wanted to check with other people.

If I'm right, what is it that I have to replace as far as power steering goes?

You are right. Your powersteering pressure hose is leaking and getting into your alternator. I went through 3 alternators before I realized it was my pressure hose that was leaking. It is about $85-$90 for the hose, just get it at your local dealership. When you ask for it, make sure you ask for the presure hose, because there are 2 hoses to the powersteering........
