Default Buying an ls1 with 100,000 plus miles

What is everyones opinion on spending $8995 on a 99 Camaro SS with 105,000 miles?I am also looking at a 97 Camaro z28 for $9500 with American Thunder Flowmaster catback,K&N,Hurst shifter, and new clutch 83,000 miles.I am leaning more toward the Camaro SS but the mileage scares me.How long have you seen these ls1 engines run before 1/4 mile times start dropping off and engine problems start?

I would not bother spending that kind of money with that high of miles IMHO.

i would deffinetly go with the LS1 it is well worth it!! the LS1 has proven its reliability many times. there are numerous people on this site with 100,000+ miles on there cars and still stomping everythings ***!! as good as the motors are it wont run forever but at $9k for the car and only 105k miles you should be happy with what you get. and start saving for the motor. around $4 or $5k you could have a brand new bad *** motor in the car wen the old one goes out. other things you should consider are the trans and rear end. the a4 will normally give out well before the motor, the M6 it pretty tough but the stock LS1 clutch sucks and wont outlast the motor by far! the stock 10 bolt rear is a joke. if you drive the car hard YOU WILL BREAK IT!!! its just a matter of time. all and all there are more factors to consider on a high milage car then just the motor. hope it helps. forget the LT1 get the LS1!!! LS1 is gods DRAG car, LT1 is gods PIT bike!!!

If it makes you feel better also spend some money on inspections saved my *** a couple times and make sure its a true SS. But anyways take it to a well know mechanic from one of your buddies or one that you know and that would make it easier to decide

Well one big plus is the Camaro SS does have the t-56 six speed transmission. In addition, you cant beat the looks of a black Camaro SS.

I know mine is black also haha. But make sure it is a true SS or you are just getting a Z28 and people jack the prices up

what about the spoiler? check for the ss badge inside. check the inside of the drivers door for any slp stickers, the one true deciding factor is check the vin and run a car fax! that should let u know if it is a true factory ss! the car fax is also worth it. it told me a few nice to know things about my car. it showed oil changes at the dealership every 3K from new till i bought it showed a new clutch new rearend new window motors ect... just gives u a good idea of what has been done to your car!

Honestly who cares if it is an SS or Z28? Its almost the exact same. Same engine. Same tranny. If you would not pay that price for a Z28 you should not pay it for an SS.

I would get the ls1 ss. High miles aint to bad because if you think about it you will end up rebuilding the car if you want to make it seriously fast. And yea SS or z28 its all good same car cept some appearance items.

Simple answer.. Find out how well the car was taken care of.. if it was taken care of which means oil changed reg. driven not flooring it every single minute and doing burnouts then id say its fine its a ls1 afterall.. but i think you can look around and take some time find a car cheaper even I got my trans with 75k m6 with brand new tires and brakes on and it was a 1owner taken care of car for 8.5k so just do the math and look up the vin before you buy

I think that's a bit high of a price...I just recently sold my 2001 Z28 that was perfect on new ZR1 rims with long tube headers and ran 12.9s all day on street tires for $9500..it had 72k miles...deals are out there..just gotta keep an eye out.

I bought my Z for 14K, had 45K on it has 48K on it right now. Taken care of very well. I just couldn't see buying a car with over 100K miles on it for almost 10 grand.

Good advice you all. With the high miles on the SS I might be able to talk him down $500-$1000 since I am paying straight up cash and I am good at jewing salesman down with small faults.

I have a lot of miles on my LS1.. but I only bought it with 105,000 and it's at 108,000 at the moment. I don't know if the previous owner has done a lot of repairs, but it is running very strong.

105k on an ls1 is nothing if it's been taken care of. people act like these cars grenade at 110k but they just don't. poke around... there are a few on here close to 200k
