Default Noise on startup

When I start the car in the mornings or after sitting for a while, it sounds like there is a small noisy air compressor running under the hood. It stops after 1-2 minutes though. Is this the AIR system? How do I delete it? What is its purpose? I know these questions have been answered before. I tried to search but it doesn't work so...

If you have cats you need to leave it intact. What its purpose is it adds air to the exaust to fire up the cats on startup for emissions. If you don't have or plan to run cats it can be deleted from your exaust and your CPU.

I'm a bad boy. I've deleted my entire air system, and run high flow cats. Needless to say, there are more and more pieces of the honeycomb crap in the cats turning up on my garage floor.
