Default Timing?

My car is completely stock, and is going in for the 60k mile tune up on Tuesday. I was wondering if I could have the timing advanced 2 degrees without any pinging or knocking occurring, obviously running on high octane (91 here). Will I need to use hotter spark plugs, or any other slight modifications, or will advancing the timing outright gain a few ponies. I know hand held tuners like predator and hyperchips advance timing, so I'm thinking nothing bad could come of it, but any advice or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You appear to realize the timing has to be advanced through pcm programming. There are two exceptions to that; the Timing Tuner and MSD external modules.

As for using hotter plugs for 2 degrees of timing, no for two reasons. Two degrees isn't enough to warrant a different plug unless you pick up some spark knock and you would go colder rather than hotter with more timing.

What are you hoping to gain by advancing the timing since it does not appear you have any mods besides speakers.

Alright thanks for the input. I only wanted to the timing advanced in hopes of a little bit more horse power (they said they check the timing with the tune up, and when I asked about advancing it they said they would probably do it for free). But if it wont make to much of a difference, then I just wont worry about it.

Whoever was going to work on the car probably thought it had a distributor type ignition. Don't let them touch your car, lol.
